Have Questions? Here Are Some Answers

  • Are you going to "zap" my brain?

No. LENS does not add anything to your brain. The system simply reads your brain’s activity and briefly reflects that information back. Think of it like a mirror for your brain. Your brain then decides how it wants to reorganize and regulate itself.

  • Do the sensors have to go on my head?

Not always. Sometimes I place sensors on the head, and sometimes I start on the body. Beginning with body sensors can help calm and stabilize the nervous system before working directly with the brain. Your provider will determine what is most helpful based on your nervous system and goals.

  • Does it hurt?

Not at all. Most people feel nothing during the brief signal. Some people report a mild sensation such as warmth, tingling, or a gentle wave of energy, but many people notice no sensation at all.

  • Are there any side effects?

Occasionally people may notice temporary reactions such as fatigue, mild headache, or feeling more energized. These responses usually pass quickly and can be a sign that the nervous system is adjusting. Most people also begin noticing improvements in sleep, mood, clarity, or emotional regulation.

  • Do I need a mental health diagnosis to do LENS?

No. LENS is not diagnosis-specific. It works with the brain and nervous system’s functioning, so people seek it for a variety of concerns such as anxiety, trauma, sleep difficulties, stress, or concentration problems.

  • How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies from person to person. It depends on your nervous system, your history, and the goals you want to work on. Some people notice changes quickly, while others benefit from a series of sessions. Many people experience meaningful improvements within about 10–12 sessions, though some may benefit from more.

  • What if I'm skeptical? Do I have to believe it will work?

Not at all. Healthy curiosity and skepticism are welcome. LENS does not rely on belief. Your brain responds to the information it receives, and you can decide for yourself whether the changes are helpful.

  • Is LENS safe?

Yes. LENS uses an extremely low-energy signal that is much weaker than the energy from everyday devices like cell phones. The signal is delivered for only a few seconds. Because of this gentle approach, LENS has been used safely for many years with a wide range of people.

  • Do I still need therapy if I do LENS?

LENS can be used by itself or alongside therapy. Many people find that when the brain and nervous system become more regulated, it becomes easier to process emotions, trauma, and life experiences in therapy.

  • How is LENS different from other neurofeedback?

LENS is different from traditional neurofeedback because it does not require long training sessions or active effort from the client. Instead of trying to train the brain through repeated exercises, LENS briefly reflects the brain’s own activity back to it. This allows the brain to recognize patterns that may be inefficient and naturally reorganize itself. Because the signal is extremely gentle and sessions are very short, many people find LENS to be a comfortable and efficient approach.
